Japanese Lessons in Budapest and Online — Who They Are For
20+ years of Japanese language experience behind me
I've been working with the Japanese language since 2002: an AFS exchange year in Niigata, a MEXT-scholarship university term in Okinawa, and a Japanese studies BA and MA.
I've been teaching at JLPT N1 level since 2020 — my lessons are built around real language use, not textbook phrases.

Positioning
Why choose tanuljjapanul.hu?
A teacher who uses the language every day as an active interpreter, with a speaking-focused methodology of his own, a personalized weekly plan, and a public knowledge base. You're not buying a course — you're getting a learning journey guided by the same person throughout.
Not a language school, but one teacher — the same one throughout
The teacher doesn't change every semester, and there's no group pace to keep up with. Your learning history lives in one person's head, so every lesson builds on the last.
Interpreting practice in the background
I work as an active interpreter and translator. What I teach in lessons is something I used in a real negotiation the previous week — not an outdated textbook phrase.
Technical language, keigo, dialects, slang
Most courses only go up to JLPT N4 level. With me you can also access technical and corporate language, business keigo, as well as everyday slang and dialects.
A free knowledge base before you decide
19 detailed articles, downloadable kana charts, JLPT guides, and a mini course. See how I explain things first — then decide about lessons.

Japanese lessons take place in Budapest, at a pre-agreed location, or via online video call — with the same materials and the same price either way. Most of my Budapest students mix both formats, and for those outside the capital or abroad, I teach exclusively online.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Japanese lessons
How long does it take to learn Japanese?+
With two Japanese lessons a week and 20–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll typically reach JLPT N5 level in 8–10 months, and confident, independent conversation (N3) in about 2–3 years. The pace depends on your goals: someone who just wants to speak progresses faster than someone who also focuses heavily on kanji.
How much does a Japanese lesson cost?+
A 60-minute private Japanese lesson is available from 8,500 HUF, starting with one session a week. A discount applies for two or more lessons a week, and I offer students an additional 15% discount. The exact price depends on your goals and the format (online or in-person in Budapest).
Is online or in-person teaching better?+
Both follow the same speech-focused methodology. Online lessons are more flexible, accessible from anywhere, and we work with a shared notes interface. In-person Japanese lessons in Budapest suit those who concentrate better in a live setting and value handwriting practice. Many of my students use a mix of both.
